‘I am not the same’ relies on the willing participation of breast cancer patients and medical staff involved with their treatment and care at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas and Stavanger University Hospital, Norway. We are grateful for their co-operation in the project.
The study’s key instigators are:
Kirsten Lode (PhD) – who is a nurse/researcher and director of health science research in the Department of Research at Stavanger University Hospital. She is a specialist on coping strategies for patients with chronic disease. Dr Lode established contact with MDACC and set up the Houston-component of the study at the Department of Plastic Surgery. Dr Lode is a member of Stavanger Breast Cancer Research Group at Stavanger University Hospital.
Birgitta Haga Gripsrud (PhD) – who is a cultural studies researcher and a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Health Science, University of Stavanger. Her research interests are centered on cultural and psychosocial aspects of the breast and breast cancer, and on methods for qualitative data collection. Dr Gripsrud is the principle investigator for ‘I am not the same’ and a member of Stavanger Breast Cancer Research Group at Stavanger University Hospital.
Professor Håvard Søiland (PhD) – who is a breast and endocrine surgeon and bio-medical researcher. He is a founding member of the Prospective Breast Cancer Biobank Study (PBCB), taking place at Haukeland and Stavanger University Hospitals. Professor Søiland is the director of Stavanger Breast Cancer Research Group at Stavanger University Hospital.
